Chapter 4: The Breakthrough

Detective Peter Pux had been working on the case for days, following every lead and piece of evidence he could find in the search for Jessica. He had interviewed her friends and family, tracked down her new group of friends, and even paid a visit to one of them, a young man named Alex, in the hopes of getting him to open up about his relationship with Jessica.

But despite his best efforts, Peter was no closer to solving the case. He was starting to lose hope that he would ever find out what had happened to Jessica.

That is, until he received a call from one of Jessica's friends, who had some new information about the case. She told Peter that she had overheard a conversation between Alex and one of his friends, in which Alex had mentioned something about wanting Jessica out of the picture.

Peter knew that this was the break he had been waiting for. He immediately headed over to Alex's house to confront him with the new information.

When he arrived, he found Alex sitting on his porch, looking worried and nervous. Peter didn't waste any time in getting straight to the point.

"Alex, I know you know something about Jessica's disappearance," Peter said firmly. "And I'm not leaving here until you tell me what it is."

Alex looked like he was about to bolt, but Peter was ready for that. He grabbed him by the arm and sat him down on the porch, determined to get the truth out of him.

"I know you were in love with Jessica, Alex," Peter said. "And I know that you were devastated when you found out she was leaving town with her long-term boyfriend. You snapped, didn't you? You couldn't handle the thought of losing her, so you did something about it."

Alex looked down at his feet, tears streaming down his face. "I didn't mean to do it," he said quietly. "I just couldn't bear the thought of losing her. I didn't know what I was doing."

Peter knew that he had finally gotten the truth out of Alex. He had cracked under the pressure, and had finally admitted to killing Jessica in a fit of jealousy.

Peter knew that this was the breakthrough he had been waiting for. He had finally found out what had happened to Jessica, and he was one step closer to bringing those responsible to justice.
