Chapter 5: The Confession

Detective Peter Pux sat across from Jack Thompson in the interrogation room, staring at the thief intently. He had been questioning him for hours, trying to get to the bottom of the missing Mona Lisa case.

"Come on, Jack," Peter said. "You can tell me the truth. Were you involved in the theft of the Mona Lisa?"

Jack looked down at his hands, avoiding Peter's gaze. "I don't know what you're talking about," he mumbled.

Peter sighed. He knew that Jack was a skilled liar, and he wasn't about to give up easily.

"We have evidence that you were at the museum the night of the theft," Peter said. "And we have footage of you leaving with a duffel bag that looks much lighter than when you arrived. What's in that bag, Jack?"

Jack hesitated for a moment before finally speaking. "Okay, fine," he said. "I'll tell you what happened. I was hired by a wealthy collector to steal the Mona Lisa. He offered me a lot of money, and I couldn't resist the temptation."

Peter's eyes narrowed. "Who is this collector?" he asked.

"I don't know," Jack said. "I was never told his name. He communicated with me through a middleman."

Peter sighed. This was going to be a difficult case to crack, but he was determined to see it through to the end.

"We'll need to find this middleman and track down the collector," he said. "But for now, Jack, you're under arrest for the theft of the Mona Lisa."

With that, Peter placed Jack under arrest and set off to find the missing painting and bring the thief to justice.
