Was the world better in the past?

Detective Pux here, with a case that's sure to make you laugh and think at the same time. The question at hand is whether or not the world was better in the past. Now, this is a tricky one, because it depends on how you define "better." If we're talking about things like technology, medicine, and human rights, then it's pretty clear that the world is better now than it was 100 years ago. But if we're talking about things like the environment, social cohesion, and political stability, then it's a bit more of a mixed bag.

Let's start with the good stuff. Back in the day, people didn't have access to the kind of medical treatments and technologies that we have now. If you had a serious illness, your chances of survival were pretty slim. But thanks to advances in science and medicine, we can now cure or manage all sorts of diseases that were once considered a death sentence. And when it comes to technology, we're living in a golden age. We have smartphones, laptops, and all sorts of other gadgets that make our lives infinitely more convenient and connected than they used to be.

But as they say, every silver lining has a cloud. And when it comes to the environment, it's pretty clear that we're not doing as well as we used to. Climate change, pollution, and deforestation are all major problems that are getting worse, not better. And when it comes to social cohesion, well, let's just say that things are a bit more fractious than they used to be. With the rise of social media and the internet, it's easier than ever to find like-minded people and form echo chambers, which can lead to increased polarization and divisiveness.

And finally, when it comes to politics, it's hard to say whether the world is better or worse than it used to be. On the one hand, we've made a lot of progress in terms of human rights and democracy. Women, minorities, and LGBTQ+ people have more rights and protections than they used to. But on the other hand, we're also seeing a rise in authoritarianism and populism in many parts of the world.

So, was the world better in the past? It depends on how you define "better." But one thing's for sure, it's never been more interesting to be alive. As detectives we always have to keep ourselves updated with the current trends and events and make sense of it to form a conclusion. And in this case, I would say that the world is different than it was in the past, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's better or worse. It's just different, and we have to make the most of it. And remember, no matter what happens, don't cry over spilled milk.
