What plants are good to keep street noise down?

Well, well, well, looks like we got a bunch of city slickers here who are looking for some peace and quiet. Ain't it funny how we always seem to forget that Mother Nature has the answers to most of our problems? Yup, you heard me right, plants!

You may be thinking "Detective Pux, what kind of voodoo magic are you talking about?" But I assure you, it's all science. There are certain plants that are natural sound barriers, and can help to reduce the street noise that's bothering you.

Now, let's get down to the nitty-gritty. If you want to keep the noise from the street outside where it belongs, you want to look for plants that are tall and have dense foliage. Why you ask? Because the thicker the foliage, the more sound it can absorb, and the taller the plant, the more distance it puts between you and the noise.

Here are some of my favorite plants for the job:

  1. Bamboo - This tall and slender plant has a dense network of leaves that can block out the sounds of the outside world. Plus, it adds a touch of tropical charm to your yard.

  2. Hedges - Hedges are an old-fashioned but effective way to block out noise. They can be easily trimmed and shaped to fit the space you have, and they come in a variety of colors and textures.

  3. Ivy - Don't let its delicate appearance fool you, ivy is a tough and hearty plant that can climb walls and create a natural noise barrier.

  4. Conifers - These tall and slender trees are famous for their evergreen needles, which create a dense network of foliage that blocks out sound.

  5. Trees - A good old-fashioned tree can also do wonders when it comes to reducing street noise. The taller the tree, the more effective it will be at blocking out the sounds.

Now that you know the plants that can help keep the noise at bay, it's time to get planting. But wait, there's one more thing you need to remember. These plants aren't going to grow overnight. It'll take time, patience and a green thumb, but it's worth it for a peaceful night's sleep.

So there you have it, folks. The next time you're feeling overwhelmed by the noise of the city, remember that a little bit of nature can go a long way. Happy planting!
